A Remotely Hosted Search Engine From FreeFind

An easy way to add a search engine to your web site is to use the free remotely hosted search engine from FreeFind.

When a visitor goes to your site they will see your "search box " and use it to enter what they are looking for. When they do this the request is sent directly to the FreeFind servers which determine which pages of your site contain the search words. A list of those pages is then displayed so your visitor can choose one.

The FreeFind servers "spider" your site ahead of time to gather information about your pages. The spider works just like a visitor to your site, browses page after page until it has followed all the links that it can find which lead to other pages of your site. Note that it does not scan your server's hard disk.

Since you can customize the search results to look just like your own site, most of your visitors will not realize that it was the FreeFind server that provided the results.
